Franciscan Missionaries of Mary - Women in Mission

We are Australians living as members of the International Institute of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary. We number 7,500 sisters of 80 nationalities, living and working in 77 countries.

We have experienced a call to follow Christ unreservedly in the path traced out by Helen de Chappotin our founder, and Francis of Assisi.

As an international, contemplative and missionary community, our aim is to be available for universal mission, to live in international communities, to be witnesses of peace, reconciliation and hope, in a society scarred by greed and social injustices. You will find Franciscan Missionaries of Mary working in education, prisons, Aboriginal settlements, parish leadership, spiritual direction, refugee services, aged care, the arts, pastoral work, and works of social justice and promotion of peace.

We work at the grass-roots in some of the most impoverished places on earth in collaboration with other Franciscans in Franciscans International, a Non-Government Organisation at the United Nations to lobby on behalf of the poor and vulnerable.

We are women of hope, ready to take risks, prepared to transcend cultural barriers for the sake of truth. We are committed to justice and peace and like Francis, approach our brothers and sisters in situations of exclusion and endeavour to live and walk with them, always respecting them as persons.

Currently Australian F.M.M. are serving in Italy, Israel, Ethiopia, Canada, South Africa and Syria.
